@Matt-- Yep. I think the widgets have to be associated with something "extra".

I'm keeping it up for a little while to accumulate statistics. Unlike other widgets that are associated with 'communities' (like Bumpzee), blogrush doesn't have this "extra".

So, Blogrush has very good with its targeting for this to work. They also need to overcome the cheaters. If they don't the widgets will vanish from peoples blogs.

Will Blogrush manage? I'm not optimistic. Andy Beard seems more optimistic. We'll see!

In the "pre-blog" days these widget-esk exchanges did not work. I doubt much has changed. Each user can put the widget "out of the way" and earn the impressions without much chance of sending visitors. To all ends it is a banner exchange with links.

@Mikael-- Thanks for the feed back. I'm going to be watching the stats.

Maybe the low CTR was due to installing just as the hackers were posting PHP codes to let people load pages over and over and over? We'll see!

If it's any consolation, I found (and bookmarked) your site via BlogRush. I hope it works out well for you.

@James-- I don't think it's going to get us banned from Adsense. It's not an automated traffic visit service. Besides, right now, Adsense would have to ban everyone-- which would ruin their revenue stream.

@Slevi-- I think people ignore the widgets. Also, I suspect in the first few days, bloggers clicked on the widget when they installed it at their own blog. Then, they stop! :)

@Maurice-- We are definitely saturated on Blogrush posts. At the same time, I'm fascinated to read how much traffic each blogger got.

I'm also suspecting another reason my click through rate is low is I'm in the third tier of joining-- and I put the widgets up just as the guys posting the codes to auto-load the widgets started telling everyone how to do that. So, my url may have appeared on auto-loaded widgets no one ever even looked at.

I don't care how great your title or topic is-- if it's auto loaded, no one is going to click!

Ok, BlogRush coverage is getting too much but here's my feedback on the stats issue. Bear in mind that I would have to be classed in the "smaller" blogs category. I installed the widget on day one and have no referrals.

It's brought me 8 visitors so I guess that puts me in a better position than many are claiming. However, the visits have been cursory, an average stay just 13 seconds and 1.25 page views per visit and a bounce rate of 87.5%.

Does that make it worth the space I'm giving the widget? Probably not but I'm still going to let it stay for a little while longer, I've never had any unrealistic hopes for its ability to drive traffic in any case.

In the end Blog Rush is just another glamourized directory listing. Probably get us all banned from Adsense to boot.

Hehe, I was being cynical when I said your click rate was horrible, they're all trashy click through rates if you ask me. If it doesn't result in at least 1 out of a hundred people to click on average there's just something wrong with the service.

What actually would be nicer is if each click cost you a credit, not each impression. But of course then the backlog of earned credits would never, ever be worked done through ;).

I'd say the main issue isn't that it wouldn't be in the same interest but many people just ignore widgets. Just like ads tend to be completely ignored widgets have been used so damn much already it's not going to work.

The only thing which would probably still work to some degree is if 5 words maximum within an entry would be linked to the other entries. Rather than picking the titles it just picks top keywords from the original entry, scans through your entry on what can be used and parses it as a link. Sort of like the amazon contextual link beta stuff and quite a bunch of other services use as well.

Since links within entries is a natural thing still, it might just work.

Downside though, just like all other things like banners, widgets, icons, etcetera having been completely wasted stuff like this might result in people getting tired of links within entries in general as well which stops normal links from getting a chance too.

@Slevi -- I suspect the extremely low click through rate is due to the fact that most of my credits and displays are for the knitting blog which has much higher traffic than this blog. Blog rush has a "hobby" category. But "hobby" is pretty broad. Why would a wood worker click knitting? Or vice versa?

Plus, my best articles are hardly the most recent ones. Blog rush needs to make it possible for bloggers to display their more attractive titles without following the JohnChow method of cheating!

Oh my, 1 out of 3059, you're doing truly bad! I have seen much better results so far :O.

Let's see, let's make it a top out of worst results which I came across so far then.

1/3059
1/2500'ish
1/1900'ish
1/1200'ish
1/250'ish

The 1/250'ish was the best I've seen so far, but even then is it truly worth it? A click through rate of 1/250 is pathetic still, definitely not worth the time of even bothering with. Many of the smaller blogs would get what, 1 extra visitor every 1 or 2 days thanks to blogrush if they manage to get a click through rate that good?

It's a waste of time and the widget doesn't even look good.
