Hide Sponsored Categories Plugin

Monday, July 9th, 2007

Here’s a new plugin to help you make even more money (and better organize your categories and tags.)

The plugin is called “Hide Sponsored Categories”, and the main way this plugin helps you make money is as follows:

It permits you to hide your “sponsored” category, so that you can take Pay Per Post Opps from advertisers whow don’t want you to display any in post sponsorship. Meanwhile, you can still use the “sponsored” category to control Kontera ads using Kontera Control.

To use this plugin, you’ll need to download the HideSponsoredCategories Plugin, upload and install it in your plugins directory. Activate.

Next, visit your Wordpress management area, and click “Options” and then click “HideSponsoredCategories”. You’ll see a user interface that looks like this, but showing your categories:

Next to each category, you will find three check boxes that let you prevent the category from appearing in one of three areas on your blog. These areas are: 1) The category tags, 2) The category list and 3) The category archives.

Let me explain what clicking each box does. (more…)

Konteral Control Extended to Adsense

Friday, July 6th, 2007

Kontera Control can now be applied to either Kontera ads or Adsense ads inside posts. You can:

  1. Keep ads out of one category of sponsored posts forever.
  2. Keep them out for a specified number of days (for example, 30 days to ensure payment by Pay Per Post.)
  3. Keep them out of all posts to avoid bombarding your regular readers with ads.

On this blog, I am controlling Kontera ads, but not Adsense which I permit to appear immediately. However, since many more people have Adsense accounts, I decided to create a pulldown menu and let you apply the same logic to controlling Adsense.

Controlling Adsense ads requires ads be inserted in posts using the adSense Deluxe plugin for Wordpress. (That plugin makes it much easier to insert Adsense ads in posts.)

To install the new Kontera plugin, download: Download Kontera Control . Unzip. Upload to your plugin directory. Read : How to use Kontera Control. (My instructions are slightly outdated; they don’t include information about adsense, which I just added to the plugin. However, if you have questions, just ask!)

Why You Need Kontera Control to Control Kontera!

Tuesday, July 3rd, 2007

I know you’ve all read how to filter Kontera ads over at Courtney Tuttle’s blog. You include the Kontera javascript in the footer. Then, when writing Sponsored posts, you just insert <span name=”konafilter”> at the beginning of your post and insert </span> at the end. These are called filter tags, and using them this way sounds easy enough.

It seems easy, but unfortunately, that method doesn’t always work. Posts are rejected… sometimes. Yet, somehow, the tags worked when you wrote your posts and most of the time they continue to work.

So, you wonder, what happened? Why do the tags sometimes work but sometimes fial?

Then, you throw your hands up in the air and stop including Kontera ads; you lose that nice passive Kontera revenue (which is, frankly, much better than Adsense revenue — at least at my blogs.)

Now, I’ll explain why the method Court and Derrick describe doesn’t quite work; I’ll also explain why my Kontera Control Plugin fixes the problem for people using Wordpress. Then, I’ll tell Blogger users how to modify their templates so they can run Kontera ads too! (more…)
