I have alot of mixed feeling to pay for a review.

If you want some quick traffic then yes but to get your targeted traffic this takes time and those users that come to the site will be honest and wanting to help you make your site better.

Regular slow and steady always wins the race.

JohnChow effect can be benificial in some ways. Great post

@bharadwaj: I've been writing all sort of reviews, and getting comments. He hasn't linked me. I feel slighted! :)

He only links you after the review-- right? He doesn't review you?

I assume a link will bring you traffic. AndyBeard linked me two days ago-- I got something like 220 unique visits from his link! That's a lot for me because I'm a new blog.

That pretty much sums up what I've been thinking for a long while. I get the impression that as soon as most people realise something is a paid review their eyes glaze over and they move onto the next post.
$400 is a lot of money to be throwing at a modest short term boost to traffic. It's the people that are falling for the hype that are keeping his earnings at the $10K mark.
On another gripe, if I see another blogger trying to link to their blog using the anchor text "make money online" I'm probably going to flip out.

Very nice and informative review. I agree with you about john chow fans being john chow fans, I think they're more interested in seeing how much money he's making with his blog and the reviews are part of that money. Thanks for sharing.

Samuro,
I think you are incorrect. The people John's reviewme blog sends to a blog do not revisit. I can only base my impression of Alexa, which is very bad for comparing two blogs to each other, but not so bad detecting whether an individual blog experiences a traffic spike.

As far as I can tell (using Alexa), none of the blogs John has reviewed through reviewme have experienced a long term traffic growth.

Sabahan.com traffic dropped to pre-John Chow ReviewMe levels. Desinotes, and the two new blogs I reviewed in my previous articles all currently get less traffic than they got before the review me articles. (You can see Desinotes on the graph in this article. I feel sorry for Desi, a college student, who seems to have wasted one heck of a lot of pizza and beer money on a JC review.)

I'm not quite sure about BloggingTips.com. He hired JohnChow and 7 other services during something like a 6 week time frame. Johns review fell somewhere inside this batch of advertising. BloggingTips.com. traffic fell after that blaze of advertising stopped and is near the level we saw in May.

So it appears the John Chow visitors don't come back.

The JohnChow effect is a very short, but lot of people revisit the site that reviewed by johnchow.
