I’m affraid that my Isp provider (one.com) don’t supports oneclick update for wordpress and I will be forced to move to another provider.Lucia can you recommend a good provider that supports that feature.

This is fantastic and brilliant. I’m going to feel a lot safer following your instructions. People love to talk about how insecure Wordpress can be, and how well their upgrades went but they never break it down to simple stuff those of us not using Wordpress yet can understand.

Some of the things I don’t get (yet) are how customizable the templates are. I’ve seen a few I would consider using but I want to use my own colors and my blog graphic which I made specially for my blog.

I’m also really worried about plugins and whether they are 100% secure.

Yeah, I think urban myths are a part of my issues here..

I have my own domain and hosting already, so I’m going to create a test blog over the next 24 hours.

Clearly I’m not the only one in need of this, by the look of the comments.

@dog tags: I don’t know how to do that! Could you just add them as an author and delete yourself? Beats me.

One of the problems with Blogger blogs is that, in a large sense, they aren’t yours. A wordpress blog run on your own domain is truly yours.

@Kher and Education: thanks! Yes, WP has many advantages over Blogger. Over time, I’ve gotten lots of questions by email because many of the instructions for how to upgrade sort of assume you already know Wordpress jargon. (The Wordpress page sort of does.)

Also, there are some little things you do early on that make things more or less difficult later. Early on, I didn’t have a testblog (because years ago, getting an account with several databases was expensive.) Having the test blog does mean I often install things twice, but it also means I don’t break my real blog if something doesn’t work!

Great post.. I think it’s a GREAT idea for anyone who uses blogger to switch to wordpress. I love using wordpress and I think it makes it much easier to optimize and customize your website.
